Peter vs. Paul: Biblical Ultimate Fighting Championship

So, things have been pretty heavy and in-depth for the last few weeks. Let's take a break.

You know how giant nerds always get caught up in their weird little hypothetical battles:
"Captain Kirk could totally kick Captain Picard's butt..."
or
"Who do you think would win in a battle between Gandalf and Yoda?"
... assuming anybody would care.

So, acknowledging that this is both nerdy and completely irrelevant to anything... well, ever:
Who would win in our first round of BIBLICAL ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP: Peter vs. Paul?

We know that they've had their differences (Gal 2:11 ff). This one is a grudge match!
In one corner we have Peter: fisherman, chief disciple, head of the church.
In the other corner we have Paul: former Pharisee, tent-maker, consumate missionary.

Place your bets!

Who will win? and why?

At the very least I hope you laughed... MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Wow! Good question. Finally something on this blog relevant to my faith! Peter would have the upper hand being a burly fisherman and hothead. Paul on the other had was a pen pusher and intelectual...but nobody could take a beating and keep getting up like Paul. Hmm maybe it would be closer than I originally thought. I'll have to stay with peter...Getting crucified upside down is no cup of tea!

This is hard. Are we talking pre-Jesus Peter or Acts Peter, cause I think pre-Jesus Peter would flip so fast Paul wouldn't know what's coming. But Acts Peter had things a little more under control which would give Paul time to preach very long-winded run-on sentences to Peter which would confuse the poor enlightened fisherman, or else bore him to sleep, either way Paul would take Acts Peter. Now if we are talking pre-Damascus road Paul, then that's a completely new ball game...

I'm sorry, I should have clarified. We're talking about Acts Peter and post-damascus Paul. So the way I interpret your comment you are voting for Paul... correct me if I'm wrong.

So far:
Peter 1 - Paul 1

Hahaha. I saw you "gimping" something the other night but forgot to ask.

I'm going to cop out and say a draw. (Are there draws in boxing? It's not my sport.) Although, it would depend on when they were fighting. Was one of them just in prison and weakend? And, would it be a battle of the fists or of the mind? I'm not sure Peter or Paul would let it come to fistacuffs, actually. That's right. It's totally moot because they would never let it get that heated.

Now, if you were, hypothetically speaking, talking about pre-Acts Peter and pre-Damascus Paul, it would be close, but I would vote Peter. Big, burly fisherman guy. Paul never struck me as the physically-strong type.

I'm with Darrell and Jess, finally something relevant to my faith. Something worth thinking about and weighing in on!

I say Paul because of his aggressive nature and because the list of things he survived in 2 Cor includes stoning, being shipwrecked, starvation, etc. He was pretty tough.
However, if you're going to have them fighting, shouldn't you remove the halos?

Hmm... I'd say Paul would be the winner. Not just because of all his beatings, shipwrecks and so on, but because he wrote more books. If Peter could fight with his books, and Paul with the one's he wrote, then Paul's book thumping would hurt a lot more than Peter's. That's what I say, it's all in the Bible thumping.

Oh my...

I will refrain from commenting. Except to say that when Juanita said "I saw you "gimping" something the other night..." A childish smile creeps across my face!

Hahaha,
It's a strange world where all of our computer lingo inserts itself into our language. Now "Facebook" can be a verb. ie: "I'll facebook you and let you what we're doing tomorrow night... etc."

Hence Juanita's verb "gimping." For those of you who don't know, "gimp" is a freeware photoshop type software.

Anyway, because there are no draw in this barbaric Biblical brawl I will count Juanita as siding with Peter.

The score is now:
Peter 2 - Paul 3

This could be interesting!

You're actually keeping score?

Well if that's the case then I must weigh in as well.

Peter is my vote. I have no deep theological reason (sorry Tim) for my choice. Simply put Peter is more real & has more relevance in own my life.

Jess caught me "geeking" the other night...it had nothing to do with technology I was just playing with my star wars figures!

Well, Jared tied things up at 3-3... so I guess that leaves the tie-breaker up to me!

I vote for Peter. While Paul's endurance is commendable I just don't think he could survive the wrath of Peter's initial onslought.

So there you have it: Peter wins the first round of our BUFC by a score of 4-3.

You know, I can't believe your blog has resorted to this sort of drivel. Tim, Jared, Tim, you are all pastors! You should be ashamed. This is how the crusades started! Your blog has now fallen to the level of Lisa's...pretty pictures and other useless drivel.

Rick

p.s. this is supposed to be sarcasm!

Rick,

There is nothing wrong with a pretty picture, useless drivel blog. It's like coffee scent when smelling perfume. It clear the senses so you can smell the next perfume to it's fullest extent.

Besides, more people prefer the smell of coffee to the smell of perfume. And more people prefer drivel blogs to the intense thinking blog of P. Tim B. here.

Although not the super cool people. They like thinking blogs, and writing thinking blogs. People like me, we just steal ideas from thinking blog people.
