Here's a video by Marc Craste that's more than a little artsy and kinda surreal. In an interview he basically said the idea for these shorts was the question, "what if TVs lived according to what is shown on them?"

Okay, I'm weird, but I like it! Artsy? Yes. But also completely far fetched! Just like TV itself. The only thing that would have made it more "TV-like" would be to throw in some random unorthodox sex scenes and a Hummer. But I prefer it without.
I don't agree that the violence was gratuitous. I beleive that it was a fundamental irreducible constituent of the plot, and without the violence we never would have understood the underlying process that is occurring.
